delaunay

I’ve recently been reading about some fabulous mid century modern designers like Eva Zeisl, Gunta Stozl, and Sonia Delaunay. Each of these women have strength and purpose in their design. It is modern without being cold. It is useful and playful. Sonia Delaunay’s work in particular charms me. I love the lyrical lines in her pieces, the vibrant colours and how she is able to make all of this work in multiple media.

I love the textures in her textile designs in particular. So much so that I was inspired to to something similar in ceramics. I finally got back to the studio this weekend and finished glazing the pieces I made over the holidays. I can’t wait to see what this is going to look like when it comes out of the kiln!
