recycled car

It’s been a while since I have shared any DIY projects. We came up with this one as a family. Funny how a long weekend brings out the creativity in all of us. The best part is that it actually rolls along pretty well.

Here’s what we used:

One toilet paper roll, a pair of scissors, a standard hole punch, a dowel cut in half (sized to fit the diameter of the hole punch), three bobbin spools, one drinking straw.

First we cut the roll so that it made a curved shape with an open bottom. Then we punched four holes – two on each long side, evenly spaced. This is where the dowels or axels fit in. We cut the straw into bits to use as spacers to keep the wheels even, placing two on the front axel on either side of one bobbin and one in the middle between the other two bobbins. If you have four bobbins you could use two wheels on the front and the back, but we just had three.

We’ve been thinking about how to make a seat for a little person to ride along. I’ll let you know if we come up with anything. Or if you have any ideas please let us know in the comments!
