all around the kitchen cock-a-doodle-doodle-doo

Our little household is slow to get on the train. But now that we are on, we are loving it. I managed to get a bunch of Dan Zanes discs from the library and our house is filled with his infectious music! I thought I would share some of our favourites for quiet, parent-friendly, and raucous summer listening. I’ll add to the list if I come across anything else that we really love. Enjoy!

::quiet::

Elizabeth Mitchell

No, it’s not the doctor from Lost. This Elizabeth Mitchell sings folksy, traditional stuff with an alternative edge.

Renee and Jeremy

Just lovely, gentle songs. Good bedtime music.

::parent friendly::

Barenaked Ladies: Snacktime

Old-school Canadian legends take on the kiddie world. Very funny stuff.

For the Kids

All of the CDs are wonderful. Full of favourite musicians like Sarah McLachlan, Matthew Sweet, They Might be Giants, Moby . . .

::raucous (and local)::

Sam’s Rot’n Pot’n Pan Band

We saw these guys live and my son was star-struck. They are just fabulous. Very funny too! Be prepared for lots of pot banging.

Music with Marnie

Marnie was our first kiddie music purchase and five years later we are still listening to her. Our favourite CD is Groovin’ Through the Neighbourhood. It’s got disco, country and everything in between.
